Remembering the Kim Possible chapter of my life

I’ve decided that its just about time that I take the time to remember my involvement in getting Kim Possible a 4th season from Disney and all of those who worked tirelessly with me in that chapter of my life.  The details are quite sketchy now as time progresses and I don’t really want to lose touch with my past.

Back in the summer of 2005 is when I first got hooked on the animated series.  I remember after about the first 5 episodes I watched that I sort of wanted to see the entire series.  I don’t know what got into me or what was different about Kim Possible to make me want to do this because I never really cared about seeing the episodes in order in any other series up to that time.  After doing some google searches, I came to this page (http://savedisneyshows.org) that said that Kim Possible was cancelled at season 3.  I’m not exactly sure how events fell into place but before I knew it, I was a member of SDS.

Shortly after, I got the episode guide and began watching the series from the beginning.  With a little help from a gentleman Adam Humpherys, I was able to get the entire series on disk so I could watch it at my pace.  I believe it took me a little under a month to see the entire series upto that point.  Sadly, when I saw the Kim Possible movie: So the Drama, I knew that was the last episode.  I don’t know why it seemed like a huge personal loss, but the movie to me ended really sad knowing this and I’m sure it affected my life for a solid month after I saw it.

After So the Drama, I quickly started helping anywhere I could, including with web development.  Over time, I became a site developer.  After Adam left the movement for his own reasons, I was promoted to an admin of the site with the title “Co-Webmaster”.  Being one of the admins was ok, but I never did like having to make decisions for others.

One of the biggest decisions of the site that I had to make was should I try to clean up all the unnecessary stuff on the site.  I choose to do exactly that.  For a while, I was cleaning up the backend of the site, but then for whatever reason, I decided to take a lead on the forums and make myself known.  Looking back, this was a mistake because I hate to lead and play bad guy.  After a few weeks on the forum, cleaning up everyone’s act, everything started to look really nice.  This worked great for a while, but then Greg, the other Co-Webmaster, started resisting changes I made.  One thing lead to another and I had a mess on my hands.  I needed Adam back to help me fix it, so I brought him in and a few others that I felt would make a difference.  In the end, I had to leave.

Leaving was probably not the worst thing that ever happened to me, although it wrecked that semester of college.  I made a few changes to my personality around then to stop letting the internet interfere with my personal, real life.  I was in my Freshman year of college and couldn’t afford bad grades, both emotionally and literally.  This worked really well because I started understanding my college material again.  Unfortunately, I was too late in focusing on College that semester, but I sitll managed to pull off what I needed to pass.

Months after, I joined another forum titled Ron’s Really Neat Forum (http://ronstoppable.proboards89.com).  It was started around the time SDS was started for the same reasons and had its own staff and own members.  This forum was much more welcoming and neutural because the moderator in charge (dracko19) was very responsible and didn’t let people get out of control.  To me, he was the ideal moderator and that is the attitude I took to SDS for a long time, but my emotions getting in the way and becoming more personal, I sort of failed.  Anyways, everything was peachy at RS.net for the longest time.  While I was on RS.net, Kim Possible was renewed, and the creators of the show visited frequently.

My biggest memory of RS.net is when I flew out to California to meet Grampa RD (a former moderator).  I also met Greg and many other wonderful members while I was out there.  I also had the opportunity to meet some of the people who made Kim Possible.  It was truly a great day that will not be forgotten in my mind.  Shortly after this day, I stopped my activity on RS.net because of more important matters. By that time, RS.net members were focusing more on the fight for season 5 because of the renewal of season 4 (which ended much better)!

Going to RS.net today, I see so many memories that are trampled by a small group of new moderators and an admin that has become active in the past years (after Dracko and Grampa RD resigned).  RS.net is nothing like it used to be, but if you look at the older threads, you will see what used to be the best of RS.net.  I guess all good things come to an end then and again.

Looking at the people working at renewing Kim Possible again for Season 5, I’m not sure why they are still at RS.net.  I understand its more centimental, but the current staff from what I see every day really isn’t focused at renewing KP for a Season 5.  If anything, I’d say they are against it from a third party observation point of view.  Grampa RD made Animation Communication Central (http://markandbobsforum.proboards47.com) for commemorating the series and provide a new home for the fans that still want season 5.  I also hopped on board with this new forum and I am working with Grampa RD to approve a new site design for private hosting.

Finally, if this blog offends anyone, I’m sorry.  I’m only making my point of view of the past available so I don’t lose touch with what has made me who I am.  I’m not against anyone anymore and I’ve personally made a point to step out of the way and make time for my own projects and everyday tasks.

Before I leave this topic for the final time, I’d like to recap a really memorable video made by the admin at RS that still touches my heart today: http://www.ronstoppable.net/thanks_MED.wmv
